Being Collected and Fun Times Ahead

Past few months has been busy and here is a little recap.
Rising Waters: Photographs of Sandy at the Museum of the City of New York was extended another time till April 20th. The NYTimes wrote a review on the exhibition Recalling the Wave of Water and Panic . In addition my print will be part of the Museum's permanent collection.

Grateful to The LifeStyle for featuring me on their site you can check out the interview.

I started to work on photographing documents and materials of a theater collection for the Library. We just got a new Zeiss lens I can't wait to play with!

Looking forward to the Ladies Freedom Ride coming up soon in Ohio.
Motorcycles, great people and good times. You can't ask for more than that!

Below are some pics from the past few months around the city.

Thanks for viewing.

Winterized

It has been quite a winter here in New York. There is even talk of another storm coming soon. I am so ready for the Spring time! I prefer warm weather and sunshine but I have to admit that I have enjoyed taking photos this winter especially with my phone. I bundle up like crazy and then explore. As long as I am not cold I am ready to shoot! You can now find me now on instagram @lizborda. Below are some phone images.

I also received great news recently!  Rising Waters:Photographs of Sandy a show I am part of at the Museum of the City of New York will be on view a month longer till April 6, 2014. Check it out if you are in the area!

Playing Catch Up

I'll start where I left off. I got married and went to Hawaii for my honeymoon. Wow what an amazing place! It was great to be back there. The first time I traveled to Hawaii I was 16. I promised myself one day I would return. This time it was so great to be back and to travel with my husband. We traveled to Kauai and the big island, Hawaii. We hiked to see waterfalls and Kilauea volcano, took a doors off helicopter tour, snorkeled, swam, ate delicious food and of course relaxed by the beach. My next trip to Hawaii whenever that may be. I plan to visit Moloka'i and to revisit the other islands. Take a look below at some photos from our trip.

After Hawaii I traveled to Philly,Virginia and North Carolina.

It was good to travel some more. I got to see family, friends and visit new places as well.

Unfortunately Super storm Sandy hit the Northeast real hard. I went to parts of Staten Island and Red Hook, Brooklyn in New York that were immensely destroyed by the storm but the spirit and hope of the residents and volunteers was incredible to witness. I volunteered at Red Hook Initiative and also covered the efforts of Occupy Sandy for The Indypendent. A few of these images below were in the exhibition SANDY: Devastation, Document, Drive at The Powerhouse Arena in Dumbo.

The image above was selected to be part of the exhibition Rising Waters: Photographs of Sandy at the Museum of the City of New York. The exhibition will be on view until March 2, 2014.

I feel very honored to have my work selected to be on view at the Museum of the City of New York and also at The Powerhouse Arena and Greenpoint Gallery earlier in the year.

In 2013, I worked with local media such as Art Parasites, Narratively and my work appeared in Businessweek, Huffington Post, and Time Out New York. I joined the American Society of Media Photographers, ASMP later in the year and that has been a great way to meet other photographers and learn more about the business side of photography. ASMP also offers many resources and seminars.

Looking back it has been quite an adventure. Here are some images and moments in 2013.

Thank you for taking a look. Looking forward to 2014!
